The Protective Technology Center is housed with the Civil Infrastructure
Testing and Evaluation Laboratories (CITEL) at Penn State University
where 24,000 square feet are devoted to integrated structures and
materials research.
Facilities within CITEL include:
•Structural tie-down floor (2500 sq ft, with plans for expansion)
•MTS 244.41 Servo-Controlled Linear Hydraulic Actuators
- One 49 kN (11,000 lb) capacity
- Two 490 kN (110,000 lb) capacity
- One 980 kN (220,000 lb) capacity
- Two 490 kN (110,000 lb) capacity
•1335 kN (300,000 lb) capacity Baldwin Universal Testing Frame with
a Tinius-Olsen 398 Digital Indicating System
•Impact hammer
•Full data acquisition systems for static, dynamic, and impact testing
•CITEL computer cluster
- PCs, SUN Blade 1500 Workstations and Server: LS-Dyna, STAAD, SAP2000,
ABAQUS (Implicit and Explicit), MATLAB
The PTC faculty also utilize many facilities on campus in their
home departments, centers, and institutes including:
•Penn State Center for Academic Computing
•Penn State Institute for Computational Science
•Materials Research Institute
•Pennsylvania Transportation Institute
